When Hurrican Harvey struck, Austin, TX, was spared; however, as with 10,000 Hurricane Katrina survivors, Harvey survivors were also presented with the housing in Austin that had been intended for people already experiencing homelessness. When homeless folks went to the relief centers, they were turned away as undeserving.
House the Homeless proposes that any person who presents him/herself as homeless in any area impacted by a disaster will, from that moment forward, be entitled to receive all relief afforded to any other individual or family by any municipality, county, state, or federal agency, including relief in the form of housing.
